This position is located at Shiprock Service Unit, Business Office Branch. The position performs accounts receivable support functions for the patient account system, through the posting of payments and adjustments to accounts receivable. The Incumbent works under the Supervisory Health Systems Specialist (BO Manager).

Duties

Maintains accounts by reviewing documents to verify accounting data, entering data into the system. Performs work consisting of examination for accuracy of claims and other requests for payments. Maintains the automated accounts receivable ledger associated with third-party payer claims. Prepares all pertinent documents for refunds to payers, this process involves direct communication with payers, service unit and Navajo Area finance. Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reconciliation and recapitulation of third-party billing to assure that collections, billed data and the computerized and manual reports are in balance. Uploads third-party bills by approval dates. Reviews and examines various bill types of patient care to third-party payers and performs third-party collection posting to the automated account receivable program. Responsible for the posting of all contractual/adjustments related to and in conjunction with posting of payments. Audits all documents received for completeness and accuracy.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): GS-06: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level to qualify for the GS-06. Specialized experience: Experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Examples of specialized experience at the GS-06 grade level: performing a variety of accounts receivable functions such as preparing daily collections, adjust and post payments, examine and follow-up on claims, reconcile and balance accounts, process refunds and prepare financial reports. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
