Duties
Incumbent assists in the maintenance, repair, and stabilization of sites built of stone and mortar. As directed by the supervisor, assists in
(1) mixing soils, water, and amendments for mortars as prescribed;
(2) removing damaged portions of walls or other similar architectural features in preparation for repair of damage stabilization and original fabric;
(3) implementing prescribed preservation treatments (capping, veneering, re-pointing, resetting, new laying, etc.);
(4) recording the location, time, materials, and labor involved in the treatment process; and
(5) performs basic documentation, photography, and computer data entry duties for stabilization work.
These are Career-Seasonal positions and are subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. Selectee will work approximately 10 months in pay status, and you will be in a non-pay status (approx. 2 months; January - February) but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions.

Physical Demands: Incumbent often lifts objects weighing over 50 pounds, unassisted. The incumbent frequently stands while working and must frequently climb ladders and scaffolds from 6 to 30 feet. Bending, stooping, climbing and working in awkward positions are regularly required.
Working Conditions: The incumbent is exposed to a variety of weather conditions while working outdoors and is subject to danger of falling when working from ladders and scaffolds. They may be exposed to dust and dirt while mixing mortar, removing damaged portions of walls, and while handling various masonry materials. Frequently works around heavy equipment and vehicles. In accordance with OSHA regulations, must use all personal protective equipment as required by OSHA regulations.
*Aztec Ruins National Monument is located in the San Juan Basin along the Animas River in northwest New Mexico, in Aztec, New Mexico. The town of Aztec has a population about 8,500. Weather is generally temperate, although extreme temperatures do occur at times. Housing is plentiful with prices for buying or renting being reasonable for the area. No Government quarters are available. Retail service, professional and medical services, churches, hospitals, and educational facilities are available, including a multitude of recreational facilities. The cities of Durango, CO and Farmington, NM are nearby providing various other services. Year-round recreational opportunities abound within a short commuting distance.

*Chaco Culture National Historic Park - AREA INFORMATION/HOUSING INFORMATION: Chaco Culture NHP is located in the Four Corners area of New Mexico. The nearest towns are Bloomfield - 65 miles northwest, Farmington - 75 miles northwest, and Aztec - 70 miles northeast. The nearest grocery store is located at Crownpoint - 39 miles south. Schools, shopping, doctors, hospital, etc. are located in the towns of Bloomfield, Farmington, and Aztec. Closest elementary and high schools are 65 miles one way in Bloomfield. Roads from the south are all dirt for 19 miles. Precipitation for the area is minimal. Rain and snow are not common; and either can make the roads impassable. Aztec Ruins NM is located in the small town of Aztec, in San Juan County, New Mexico population about 8,500. All facilities are available in Aztec and Farmington, 15 miles distant.
