About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities.
Duties
Participate in ongoing and annual maintenance projects.
Move items, such as, volleyball nets, wrestling mats, weight-training equipment and/or gymnastics apparatus.
Assemble equipment for classes and/or athletic contests.
Measure and align playing fields to set up athletic equipment on the outdoor athletic fields.
Perform maintenance duties on motorized equipment.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 80 pounds in the regular performance of duties.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Laborer without more than normal supervision, to include: Setting up athletic equipment such as soccer and lacrosse goals, tennis nets, obstacle courses, backstops and windbreaks on athletic fields and/or assembling and moving volleyball nets, wrestling mats, physical training apparatus and gymnastics equipment and performing maintenance duties such as changing light bulbs, vacuuming swimming pools, scrubbing desks, resurfacing gym floors. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official.

Carries wrestling mats up and down stairs. Regularly lifts and moves items weighing over 80 pounds, such as wrestling mats, weight-training equipment and gymnastics apparatus. Frequently moves objects weighing more than 50 pounds such as physical training tables, sandbags, and sports goals.
Works outdoors in all weather conditions and indoors in areas that may be dusty, drafty, or hot and humid. Required to wear appropriate safety gear such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, and ear plugs, and to follow safety procedures when working with chemicals such as cleansers and solvents.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
