About the Position: This position is located at Fort Novosel, Alabama, home of the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence.
This position is a Term position and can be extended up to a maximum of six years and may be made permanent without further competition.
Army employees who accept a time-limited appointments (to include employees with personal competitive status) will be separated at the end of the time-limited appointment date if the Not-to-Exceed (NTE) date is not extended.
Duties
Use judgement to determine appropriate circumstance necessary to suspend AH-64 range operations.
Participate in the planning of AH-64 range operations.
Use experienced judgement to make critical decisions during AH-64 weapons firing exercises.
Support daily operations for AH-64 aircraft range operations.
Implement range operations based on experience as a gunnery qualified AH-64 pilot.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 25 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- This position has been designated “Mission Essential”.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes overseeing aerial range operations, implementing aerial range control safety operations, conducting aerial range operation planning, and ensuring that aerial range operations comply with regulations for an aerial gunnery range complex. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Range Operations, Aviation Operations, or Aerospace Operations.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the second lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
