You will serve as a Fire Protection Inspector of NAVAL WEAPONS STATION EARLE.

Duties

You will identify hazardous conditions or practices to determine appropriate corrective action. You will inspect structures during construction or renovation to verify adherence to fire safety. You will draft corrective plans of action for fire code violations observed during an inspection.

Qualifications

For The GS-08: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Performs fire protection inspections of buildings, facilities, and areas where processes or contents involved special hazards; 2) Performs special hazard inspections and issues temporary permits for the performance of hot work (welding, brazing, roof tar kettle operations, etc); 3) Inspects, tests, corrects or causes to be corrected deficiencies in variety of fire extinguishers and reporting systems such as sprinkler systems, heat detector systems, smoke detector systems, combination heat/smoke detector systems, and fire alarm communications systems; 4) Communicates verbally and in writing, including the results of inspections; 5) Review plans for new construction, renovations, alterations, and additions to existing structures to ensure compliance with fire and safety codes and recommends changes and modifications as required to ensure compliance with fire prevention and protection requirements; 6) Develops, organizes and implement a fire and life safety education program for all levels of employees and management to increase the life safety and fire prevention awareness of occupants and visitors; 7) Provides public education classes and practical demonstration of fire safety; industrial fire safety and home scape planning; 8) Support fire department operations personnel during emergency and non-emergency incidents; 9) Assist the incident commander performing communications, liaison, record keeping, personnel accountability, staging, and other support functions. For The GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: : 1) Inspects and/or tests a variety of fire extinguishers and reporting systems with some guidance; 2) Performs technical inspection of high hazard occupancies and work processes with guidance; 3) Evaluates facilities to determine need for fire protection systems and/or participates in code and technical review of plans for construction and renovation with guidance; 4) Communicates with fire department operations personnel on changes in process and hazards so facility fire response plans and/or maps are updated and other technical issues independently; 5) Prepares written inspection reports and violation notices independently. Firefighter Certifications: Fire Inspector 1, Fire Inspector 2, Fire Instructor I; CPR. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement.
