This National Guard position is for an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC LEADER (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1548000 and is part of the Oregon Air National Guard 142d Wing, National Guard.

Duties

As an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC LEADER (TITLE 32), WL-8852-10, this position is located in an Air National Guard Flying Wing, Logistics Directorate, Aircraft Maintenance Division, Accessories Element, Repair and Reclamation Shop. The primary purpose of this position is to lead three or more subordinates. In addition, performs journey level duties involving maintenance and repair of aircraft components such as wheels, tires, flight controls, canopies, and landing gear, both on and off aircraft systems. Also performs general heavy airframe maintenance beyond capability of other maintenance shops, as well as recovery and reclamation of damaged equipment, or crashed aircraft. Incumbent performs duties necessary to accomplish maintenance and leader functions in support of programs essential to ANG daily operations, training, and readiness missions. (1) On a regular and recurring basis, leads three or more aircraft mechanic subordinates in performing all phases of repair and reclamation on aircraft systems and equipment, utilizing lifting bags, cranes, hoists, slings, forklifts, and other heavy equipment. (2) Monitors work of assigned personnel, sets the work pace, conveys work assignments, and assures that materials, tools, equipment, and stock are available. Coordinates and works with aircraft mechanics, and performs journey level work as required. (3) Ensures that assigned personnel are fully utilized and work is accomplished in accordance with established time frames and priorities. Checks work in progress and/or upon completion for compliance with the supervisor's instructions, appropriate technical orders, etc. Serves as a technical advisor by answering questions regarding appropriate procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives. Assures that safety, housekeeping, security, and other environmental rules are followed. (4) Advises the supervisor of overall work operations, status and progress of work, causes for delays, problems encountered, and individual performance (e.g., additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees). As requested by the supervisor, provides functional planning for the inspection docks. On a daily basis, recommends adjustments in work schedules to provide optimum utilization of personnel in support of functional requirements. (5) Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Compatible Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC): 2A3X3 (must hold this AFSC to be considered). Applicants outside of the ORANG must submit documents showing award of AFSC such as a tech school certificate, Data Brief, vMPF rip, and/or DD214.
  • Military Grades: Minimum TSgt/E-6 and maximum MSgt/E-7. Applicants outside of the ORANG must submit documents showing current (or previously held) military grade such as a Data Brief, vMPF rip, and/or DD214.

Qualifications

Areas of Consideration: Area 1 - Current permanent and indefinite T32 technicians of the Oregon ANG. Area 2 - Current permanent and indefinite T5 employees of the Oregon ANG. Area 3 - Current service members in the Oregon ANG. Area 4 - Individuals in the active duty US Air Force, Air Force Reserve, or Air National Guard. Area 5 - US Citizens eligible to meet the military requirements for membership in the Oregon ANG. GENERAL and SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Work involves the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, overhaul, and modification of fixed and rotary wing aircraft systems, airframes, components and assemblies, where the work requires substantive knowledge of the airframe and aircraft mechanical, pneudraulic, and/or electrical systems and their interrelationships. Some work situations within this series may require varying levels of electronics knowledge. Experience or training that has provided the candidate with sufficient knowledge to complete the work of this occupational series. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 24 months experience experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container. In addition, must have experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, organize, and lead the work of others in fields directly related the repair function of this occupational series. Must have the ability to perform administrative functions; to read and interpret a variety of technical publications used in the repair of supported equipment. The ability to provide guidance to others in work related directly to this occupational series.
