This temporary promotion may be extended up to a total of 5 years or made permanent without further competition.

Duties

At the full performance level, you will provide a variety of services related to the secretary position. If selected, you will receive formal and/or on-the-job training as needed. Duties include: Reviews all outgoing correspondence prepared for supervisor's signature, e.g., action documents, case files, legal documents, and reports. Edits written material for adherence with supervisor's established policies, writing style, and previously expressed views, as well as for conformity with office policies and correspondence procedures. Composes a variety of written material that varies in subject and format, but typically requires drafting appropriate correspondence to reflect supervisor's established policies and special interests. Screens telephone calls and visitors desiring to speak with supervisor and determines which calls must be referred and which can be resolved personally or by a more appropriate staff member. Maintains a log of visitors and callers, their purpose, and independently follows-up or reminds other staff members of necessary follow-up as appropriate. Provides formal and informal feedback to other staff members expressing the views of supervisor on wide variety of topics.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.

Qualifications

GS-09: To be eligible at the GS-09 level, you must have at least one full year experience at the GS-08 level and Specialized Experience. Specialized Experience To be eligible at the GS-09 level, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 level. Specialized experience is defined as: establishing priorities and arranging, shifts or canceling appointments and meetings for supervisor; reading, screening and controlling incoming mail and independently handling matters addressed to supervisor that do not require their personal attention; ensuring prepared documents are in proper format and spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar have been verified, consulting with document author to resolve questionable material; producing a variety of written documents and information reports utilizing varied and advanced functions in different types of office automation software; making travel arrangements for supervisor. To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.) Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy.
