This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located with the Directorate of Public Works, Fort Campbell, KY.

Duties

Follow electrical diagrams to disassemble HVAC components. Use prescribed test procedures, voltage/ohm testers, and hand tools common to the trade. Maintain HVAC equipment for efficiency and functionality. Replace worn or damaged belts and/or filters. Perform preventive maintenance on a variety of air conditioning equipment. Determine when mechanical, electrical, and structural components of fan coil units need to be repaired or replaced.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position is an Inclement Weather Essential position.
• This position requires a pre-employment physical examination.
• This position requires you to possess and maintain an EPA Type II or Universal Certification, from an approved institute, for the handling and control of refrigerants and other Ozone Depleting Substances.
• This position requires a valid state Drivers License issued by a State or territory of the United States.
• This position requires lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Position subject to a 24-hour call back and scheduled/unscheduled overtime.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common duties to include HVAC maintenance and repair. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Handles and-carries equipment and tools weighing up to 50 pounds. Uses hydraulic lift and dolly and is assisted by shop personnel when lifting or transporting heavier objects. Normally works from floor and ladders, but occasionally works from platforms and scaffolding in order to reach heating and cooling units. Work requires stooping, stretching, bending, kneeling, and crawling in cramped places. Motor Vehicle Operation. Light physical effort is used in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is usually performed inside, but occasionally is performed outside on roofs, in attic spaces, and other cramped areas. Dirt and dust are always present and there is exposure to the possibility of cuts and nicks from filters and metal cabinets. There is also possibility of electrical shock and falling from ladders and scaffolding. Motor Vehicle Operation. Is exposed to driving hazards and is subject to cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of driving accidents.
