This position is located in the Dental Department at the Hopi Health Care Center in Polacca, AZ. The purpose of this position is to provide clinical pediatric services and act as the pediatric consultant for the service unit. The incumbent is under the technical supervision of the Chief of the Dental Department.

Duties

Functions as an administrator in the development, implementation, and evaluation of pediatric dental programs based on the objectives of the overall IHS dental program. Conducts special surveys on Indian groups in order to secure baseline information related to the pediatric dental services they require. Assists the Chief with the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Pediatric Dentistry program. Assists the Chief in the supervision of hospital dental personnel as pertinent in the Pediatric Dental clinic. Performs oral surgery, endodontic, prosthodontic, operative and preventive orthodontic services to predominantly minor age children with referral in appropriate complex cases. Emergency services, including the treatment of trauma, pain and infection.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S), GS-0680: Education Applicants must have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0680-13: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: In-depth knowledge and understanding of dentistry and the specialty of Pediatric Dentistry, highly developed diagnostic skills, expert treatment planning ability, outstanding behavior management skills, and considerable skill in administering treatment. OR Completed a 3-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science In addition, to the Basic Requirements and Minimum Qualifications, you must also meet the Medical Requirement stated below. MEDICAL REQUIREMENT: Applicants must be able to distinguish shades of color. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within the closing date of the announcement.
