You will serve as a ELECTRIC POWER CONTROLLER in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.

Duties

You will perform a variety of functions in the operations and preventive maintenance of a primary electrical source system. You will serve as Operator in Charge on rotating shift basis. You will operate alternating current and direct current switchboards to control and distribute electrical power through the primary distribution system. You will monitor load indicator gauges to detect large changes in load and operates turbo alternator or diesel generator controls.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current California Class C driver's license or higher required.
  • Required to operate bucket trucks, Auger trucks, Line trucks and forklifts in an incidental basis, must qualify for and maintain a government license for all equipment in accordance with Navy P300 licensing regulations.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • Incumbent will work 630-1630, however is subject to rotating shifts either 1400-2330, 0001-930 or 0630-1630 on an alternate work schedule (5/4/9 or 8/6 schedule) as required.
  • May be subject to rotational work assignments for extended periods to perform duties at various locations including but not limited to the wharfs and offshore islands.
  • Incumbent is included in the After-hours emergency recall list. In the event of a major emergency or disaster, all employees will be required to report to their supervisor in a most timely manner as possible.

Your resume must show that you have the ability to perform common tasks under general supervision including: 1) Distributing and controlling electrical distribution systems. 2) Operating switchboards to remotely control circuit breakers, transformers and switches in order to regulate and maintain proper voltage on the distribution lines. 3) Interpreting operating instructions and distribution equipment operating criteria to determine when to adjust the taps on a transformer in order to maintain voltage on the feeder.
