Under the Environmental Management Services, in Northport, NY. Operating commercial-type laundry washers, extractors, tumblers, or conditioners. Loads and unloads and controls machine. Furnishes guidance and assistance to lower grade workers and patients assigned to the Textile Care Processing Facility. Coordinates with other areas to ensure an even workflow of all types of textile, clothing and uniforms to the finishing section.
Duties
Incumbent duties include and are not limited to:
Runs laundry machines used for a variety of special purposes.
Treats laundry articles with special solvents such as water repellent and flame retardant.
Adjusts amounts used for effect of differences in water temperatures, timing cycles and types of fabric.
Periodically makes simple chemical ph and titration tests of the break, suds, rinse, bleach, ands our operation.
Loads machines based on capacity of equipment, type of laundry treatment and type of fabric.
Weighs load.
Adjusts loads or equipment for load weight.
Operates different types of laundry equipment. Sets a number of machine controls for a variety of cleaning purposes, including laundering, dying, starching or treating special fabric finishes.

Adjusts controls for type of fabric and degree of soil.
Measures and dispenses laundry additives such as dye, bleach, starch or other types of fabric treatments.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Strict attention is required to coordinate completion of all tasks with precision and without loss of quality or violation or safety practices. All duties are performed while standing, walking, bending, or stooping on a concrete floor. Heavy lifting of bundles weighing over 23 kilograms (50 pound) and pulling are required while loading or unloading machines, heavy laundry bags, handling of washroom supplies, etc. Physical conditions must be good, as muscle strain, constant use of both hands, good footwork and eyesight are required.
Working Conditions: Incumbent is exposed to high temperatures and close, steamy or drafty conditions and subject to disagreeable odors and excreta from soiled or contaminated lines. Constantly exposed to the possibility of bruises from moving carts or falls in the washing area. You are also exposed to constant noise from moving equipment and danger exists from working near steam popes, moving equipment, chemicals and close quarters.
