About the Position: Duties will be performed in an office setting within Naval Hospital Pensacola, Monday - Friday from 7am-330pm. Hours can be adjusted with approval from the Medical Records Administrator and payroll.

Duties
Audits retrospectively coding for accuracy of diagnosis, evaluation, procedure codes and documentation. Analyzes the patient medical records to identify clown and up coded services in accordance with federal coding regulations and guidelines.
Provides review and analysis of coding accuracy and compliance statistics and coordinates results with business office staff.
Prepares reports of finding and recommends staff education and training on accurate coding practices and compliance issues to maintain at least 95% coding accuracy.
Develops programs and plans for orienting and training medical staff in basic coding techniques and requirements.
Plans, schedules and performs encounter audits to monitor performance, ensure improvement; audits will be used to identify operational and regulatory issues, and compliance requirements and to ensure complete and accurate data capture.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility for a security clearance. A favorable ANACI (Access National Agency Check and Inquiries) background investigation is required for a non-critical sensitive position requiring access to network systems.
- This position utilizes the computer system in everyday operations, accessing of medical records, report and corresponding with command, managers and staff, etc. Position also requires continuous review and access to PI/HIPAA information.

One year of specialized experience which includes experience such as: Consult with and educate physicians on coding practices and conventions; Communicate to obtain needed documentation for accurate coding; Maintain a thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, disease processes and surgical techniques to effectively apply coding guidelines. Maintain a thorough understanding of medical record practices, standards, and regulations. Prepares and/or performs medical center auditing analysis; be able to work independently, be aware of the time constraints required by regulations, and independently sets priorities to accomplish work within the specified deadlines, and independently plans, coordinates, and carries out assignments.. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

CPC: Certified Professional Coder
CPMA: Certified Professional Medical Auditor
