This Visual Information Specialist position serves within the Communications and Media Service (CMS) at the VA Medical Center located in Tampa, Florida.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties include but may not be limited to: Coordinates, plans, designs, and produces computer-designed print and electronic visual information material, and photographically enhanced media for targeted audiences (i.e., veteran patients, medical students, staff, and researchers). Designs and executes printed material for manuals, newsletters, pamphlets, handbooks, and similar types of publication. Prepares "draft" layouts that convey an effective visual design of typography, graphics, and space to maximize visual impact and to emphasize visual elements for the requestor and the audience. Determines appropriate format for medical/research/administrative lectures, slide/tape/power point programs, satellite and video conferences, audio teleconferences, video note-booking programs, and similar types of media support material for targeted audiences. Creates word text, complex graphics and assembled written conceptual material using "desktop publishing" software, such as Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and/or Adobe Illustrator. Maintains responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of equipment, tools and space utilized in performing duties, including but is not limited to, computers and operating systems, computer peripherals, printers, color copiers, paper cutters, paper folders, and work areas. Researches cutting edge technologies and makes recommendations for Communications and Media Service (CMS) equipment purchases and graphics software upgrades, based on program needs. Maintains data on projects, workload, production, funding priorities and budget recommendations. Communicates orally and in writing with clinical and administrative staff in the design of visual materials. Provides support when needed for Audio/Visual presentations, including video conferencing. Conducts employee training in support of Communications and Media Service (CMS) programs. Performs other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Requires at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service (GS-07) that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other artwork, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means. Specialized experience also includes using "desktop publishing" software, such as Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and/or Adobe Illustrator. (Resume(s) must clearly support the required experience. We will not make assumptions.) -OR- SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Requires a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related, with a major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Some positions may also require subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science, or technical equipment. (NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with your application materials.) -OR- COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Requires equivalent combinations of successfully completed progressively higher-level graduate education (beyond the first year) and specialized experience, as described above, meets the total experience requirements for this grade level. Physical Requirements: Work involves some standing and sitting for extended periods of time at a desk or computer terminal. The work requires manual dexterity, hand and eye coordination, and the ability to accurately perceive and sense color hues and chroma. Work requires physical exertion such as long periods of standing, recurring bending, or recurring lifting of moderately heavy equipment.
