About the Position: This position is a DOD Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system position in the Excepted Service under 10 USC 1599f. Employees occupying CES positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is located at the 7th Signal Command, 106th Signal Brigade - Signal Network Enterprise Center, Fort Sam Houston, TX.
Duties
Perform server systems administration duties on clustered virtual servers and within a blade server environment to ensure optimal data availability and functionality of installed network servers and desktop workstations.
Manage the creation of user accounts and maintains configuration management control records and access of data storage, space allocation, and device usage for authorized users of Command information systems.
Review and manage server logs, performs diagnostics, and executes system backups and recoveries.
Respond to system failures caused by software and hardware deficiencies.
Research, design, implement, integrate, and provides support for new/emerging technologies associated with the NIPRNET and SIPRNET systems in a wide area of responsibility.
Administer and coordinate the RNEC's implementation of operating systems, which include system software, hardware configurations, network communications, system operations, systems security and hardware and software maintenance.
Administer RNEC data storage and backup/retrieval of all NIPRNET and SIPRNET user data on SANs.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Three year trial/probationary period may be required.
- The incumbent must obtain and maintain at a minimum Top Secret level clearance.
- Position requires TDY travel up to 15% of the time.
- Required to possess a valid state driver's license to operate official government vehicles in the performance of mission requirements.
- Required to perform 24 X 7 shift work in support of operational IT related mission/after duty hours on call/emergency requirements.
- Pre-appointment physical is required due to lifting up to 40 pounds.

- In performing above duties, overtime and shift work may be required on short notice to include nights, holidays, and weekends in support of related mission requirements.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe one year of specialized experience that demonstrates the possession of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Such experience is typically in or directly related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience would be demonstrated by providing project management support during the planning, development, testing and implementation of new systems; and administering Active Directory services including accounts and group membership OR performing System Administrator functions across server operating systems including supporting various roles such as file, print, or web services; providing advice and guidance in areas of system analysis, hardware configuration, software requirements, software support, and system administration to improve overall systems performance.
The specialized experience must include, or be supplemented by, information technology related experience (paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training, as appropriate) which demonstrates each of the four competencies, as defined:
(1) Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Examples of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: completing work independently that rarely requires editing or review by others.
(2) Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Examples of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: resolving simple and routine problems, questions, or complaints and providing support and guidance to customers on non-routine issues; serving as a primary resource for customers, requesting assistance with complex issues when necessary; and participating in meetings and providing advice to customers in own area of expertise.
