This position is located in the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Office of the Center Director in Peoria, IL.
In this position, you will serve as an executive assistant to the Director, providing administrative and clerical support in an office environment, and coordinating office events and outreach activities in support of program goals and objectives.
Duties
Review all incoming directives, regulations, correspondence, and publications in an office environment.
Independently schedule and coordinate meeting arrangements, both on and off site, at local or distant facilities.
Prepare travel authorizations and travel vouchers using the current agency program.
Participate in program planning support work such as research project coordination, travel documentation, budget coordination, agreements, and purchasing or procurement of supplies and equipment.
Use a variety of office automation software programs and equipment to edit, copyedit, type, and format letters, reports, documents, and other forms of correspondence.
Establish, maintain, and revise the office filing system.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

Qualifications

GS-08
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-08 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-07 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience includes experience scheduling and coordinating meetings and outreach activities; composing correspondence utilizing Microsoft Office applications; and coordinating conferences or meetings, including arranging logistics, preparing agendas, or notifying participants.
Applicants must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
