This position operates heavy engineering equipment for the New Orleans District.
Duties
Operates heavy engineering equipment such as excavators, front-end loaders, bulldozers, etc.,
Operates heavy engineering equipment on all types of terrain.
Operates wheeled or tracked equipment to tow attachments and non-self-propelled equipment.
Operates rail-mounted cranes to move gates, needles, and walkways on the structures.
Performs routine operator's maintenance and service on assigned equipment, such as: keeping equipment clean, parts properly greased, and serviced with water, coolants, lubricating oil, hydraulic oil, and fuel, etc.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment physical examination and an annual examination thereafter.
- This position meets the criteria for random drug and alcohol testing under the Department of Army Drug-Free Workplace Program as supplemented by USACE ER 690-1-1218.
- Incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Travel of up to 10% required.
- Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Engineering Equipment Operator ~ without more than normal supervision. Operating heavy equipment to move material and equipment from one location to another, operating a pick-up or cargo truck on public roads. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Effort - Heavy physical effort is required in constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving arms and legs to operate various controls. Is subject to strain caused by constant vibration of equipment and the jerking and jolting caused from operating over rough surfaces. Must frequently work in awkward or strained positions. Must have the coordination and dexterity to operate hand and foot controls of the equipment.
Working Conditions - Work is performed outdoors under all types of weather conditions, and from an exposed driver's seat or in partially enclosed cabs of equipment. Is subject to noise, dirt, and exhaust fumes, cuts and abrasions from trees and undergrowth, and insect bites; and possible injury from equipment overturning.
