Duties

Duties listed are at full performance grade GS-11 level. Directs air tactical operations, provides aerial supervision and establishes priorities for initial attack, extended attack and other aviation duties as required. Evaluates aircraft needs to perform air tactical mission and determines navigation requirements. Participates in the formulation, development and execution of rappel operations Determines and monitors resources needed to implement plans; and ensures the program is in compliance Plans and administers a diverse range of complex aviation field and program operations Evaluates the Regional ATGS program for compliance with program goals and objectives Determines the type, amount, and level of information required for the development and analysis of risk management alternatives and decision making.

• Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

• Minimum of 90 days of wildland firefighting experience is required.
• Willing to live/work in remote locations (volatile/unpredictable).

Qualifications

Provide course descriptions as necessary. Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-10: One year of specialized experience equivalent to a GS-09 grade. Examples of specialized experience are: Assisting in implementing helicopter service contracts and enforcing contract provisions. Assisting in aviation program and plan implementation and development. Directing initial and extended attack suppression actions such as determining incident needs, and dispatch/deployment of personnel and equipment. OR Two full years (36 semester/54 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level education or master's degree if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position (such as forestry, range management, agriculture). OR An appropriate combination of graduate level education that is directly related to the position (in excess of 18 semester/27 quarter hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. For the GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to a GS-10 grade. Examples of specialized experience are: Assisting in developing helicopter service contracts and enforcing contract provisions. Assisting in directing and coordinating aviation and helicopter rappel operations in support of fire suppression activities. Assessing various fire management factors such as aviation, fuels, suppression capability, resistance to control, ignition probability, predicted rate of spread, and flame height and weather. OR Two full years (36 semester/54 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level education or master's degree if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position (such as forestry, range management, agriculture) OR An appropriate combination of graduate level education that is directly related to the position (in excess of 18 semester/27 quarter hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Selective Placement Factors Must be a Qualified Air Tactical Group Supervisor (ATGS). Interagency Fire Program Management (IFPM) and Forest Service - Fire Program Management (FS-FPM) qualifications must be met by the time of selection. Most recent IQCS master record and/or signed Agency Certified task book must be attached to your application. If you are selected, you may be required to submit an updated IQCS master record or signed Agency Certified task book as proof of attainment of IFPM requirements prior to a final verbal offer. A minimum 90 days experience performing on-the-line (Primary/Rigorous) wildland fire suppression duties as a member of an organized fire suppression crew or comparable unit that utilized knowledge of wildland fire suppression, containment or control techniques and practices under various conditions. This experience must be documented with specific dates in the online application or resume. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
