You will serve as a TOOL & CUTTER GRINDER in the Production Resources Department of PSNS and IMF.

Duties

You will work in shops, buildings, aboard ships, and on piers with nuclear and nonnuclear equipment, systems, and projects, as required by the job or project. You will sharpen, recondition, design, and manufacture standard and precision cutting tools for use on all types of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, portable machines made by the toolmakers, and boring mills. You will provide technical and work instructions to lesser-skilled personnel who may be assigned to assist with a job, including helpers, apprentices, and others. You will perform precision cylindrical and surface grinding of material used in the manufacture of cutting tools, such as various alloy/ tool steels, and tungsten carbide steel. You will operate grinding machines, tool setting, fixtures and quality control equipment. You will keep work areas clean by removing unused material, cleaning up spills, properly stowing material, parts, and tools, and keep all combustible materials such as rags, paper, flammable liquids, etc. in proper containers.

• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
