About the Position: The U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command, headquartered in North Chicago, IL, is a jointly staffed command, staffed by representatives of all branches of the Armed Forces. The command, through its 66 military processing locations (Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS)/Remote Processing Stations (RPS)), determines whether applicants are qualified for enlistment based on standards set by each of the services. This position will be filled on a permanent basis.

Duties

Plan/evaluate/assign work to be accomplished by subordinates. Interview candidates for vacant positions, and make selections, promotions, and/or reassignments. Counsel subordinates regarding career potential and opportunities. Analyze data on the information systems, identify causes of problems, and make recommendations for solutions. Develop, assign, evaluate, and revise short and long-range objectives and goals for IT programs. Monitor emerging technologies and recommend process and organizational changes in order to leverage new technologies within the IT environment. Establish and maintain a state-of-the-art modernized enterprise architecture with a cloud-based IT Technology Stack. Provides expert technical, analytical, and management guidance for the planning, review, evaluation, implementation, coordination, and integration of the Command's systems.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has been designated as non-critical sensitive as defined in DoD 5200.2-R, and requires you to possess, or obtain and maintain, for the duration of employment, a SECRET clearance.
  • Position requires you to satisfactorily complete the appropriate training and earn the required certification as outlined in DoD 8570.01-M, Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program, dated Dec 19, 2005 (incorporating Change 4, 10 Nov 2015).
  • This position requires the employee to possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Security+ certification within 6 months of hire date.

Examples of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: resolving routine and non-routine problems, questions, or complaints; developing and maintaining strong, mutually supportive working relationships with customers; conducting evaluation of support to determine quality of services and customer satisfaction, and recommending procedural changes based on customer need or changes in policy and/or regulation. (3) Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Examples of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: convincingly conveying complex information to customers; presenting thoughts that are well-organized and demonstrating confidence in the facts and ideas; adjusting style when working with individuals with different levels of understanding; using various methods to explain and convey information. (4) Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. Examples of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: solving complex or sensitive problems by developing and proposing strategic alternatives; identifying possible conflicts and shared benefits; helping team anticipate problems and identifying and evaluating potential sources of information; providing feedback and coaching to others to help solve problems; engaging appropriate stakeholders when developing solutions in order to understand and incorporate multiple perspectives and needs; evaluating the effectiveness of decisions and adjusting future decisions as appropriate. AND Specialized Experience: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must clearly describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, including: Providing technical direction in the accomplishment of assigned information technology projects; Implementing solutions to identified information systems issues; Participating in the development of short and long-range objectives and goals for information technology (IT) programs such as technology monitoring, technology support, and technology development; Assisting in establishing an IT enterprise architecture for an organization. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-13. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
