Duties
Develop clear descriptions of historical materials for ease of retrieval.
Apply core archival procedures when working with historical collections.
Utilize automated equipment for performing archival functions.
Organize contents of archival collections.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- May be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Requires occasional lifting up to 40 lbs.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. GS-6 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) organizing contents of archival collections, 2) performing inventory of archival and/or library material, and 3) assisting in preparation of finding aids. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-05.
GS-7 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Interpreting archival methods, procedures, and techniques, 2) Recognizing how different bodies of records and the record systems involved relate to one another, and 3) Utilizing bibliographical and reference tools and techniques. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-06.
