This position starts at a salary of $37,696.00 (GS-05, Step 1) to $60,703.00 (GS-07, Step 10) with promotion potential to $89,835 (GS-11 Step 10). In this position, you will strengthen the Department's ability to protect the homeland by becoming a valuable member of a team of administrative professionals. Typical work duties may include: Assisting with planning to gather and interpret information and data for problems, issues, and unusual circumstances. Assisting with identifying ways to improve or enhance current services and to ensure that such services meet management's business objectives. Assessing situations that are complicated by conflicting and/or incomplete data, requiring general problem solving to isolate issues. Defining issues or problems in terms that are compatible with appropriate laws, policies, or regulations.

Qualifications

Experience GS-05: You qualify at the GS-05 level if you possess three years of progressively responsible experience that included analyzing problems, gathering data and recognizing solutions, planning and organizing work, and communicating effectively orally and in writing. This experience may have been gained in administrative, professional, technical, investigative, or other responsible work. Secretarial or clerical work may be qualifying if it provided you the skills necessary to do this job. General clerical experience (typing, filing, recordkeeping, etc.) is not creditable Education Substitution GS-05: A Bachelor's degree or a full 4-year course of study in any field leading to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university may substitute for the experience required at this level. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester or 45 quarter hours. Experience GS-07: You qualify for the GS-07 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Assisting with gathering and interpreting information and data for problems, issues, and unusual circumstances. Assisting with identifying ways to improve or enhance current services and to ensure that such services meet management's business objectives. Assessing situations that are complicated by conflicting and/or incomplete data, requiring general problem solving to isolate issues and assisting with reconciling incomplete information. Participating in analyzing the effects of changes in law and regulations as they pertain to management services and defining issues or problems in terms that are compatible with appropriate laws, policies, or regulations. Education Substitution GS-07: Successful completion of one year of full-time graduate education from an accredited college or university may substitute for the experience required at this level. This education must demonstrate the skills necessary to do this job. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise a year of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 18 semester or 27 quarter hours. OR Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) may also substitute for the experience required at this level. SAA is defined as a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, having a class standing in the upper third of a graduating class or major subdivision, or membership in a national scholastic honor society. Combining Education and Experience: To combine your education and experience, convert each to a percentage and then add the percentages. If your education is currently described in quarter hours, multiply by the fraction 2/3 to convert into semester hours then divide the semester hours by 18. To determine your percentage of qualifying experience, divide your total months of experience by the required number of months of experience. Add your percentages together. The total must equal at least 100% in order to qualify. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 12/11/2023. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
