About the Position: This position is located at a hydro-electric generating facility that includes hydropower, navigation, fish passage and recreational activities. McNary spans the Columbia River approx 10 miles N. of Hermiston, OR and 30 miles S. of Kennewick, WA. There is a daily van pool from Tri-Cities. Employees working at McNary Dam and living in the State of Washington are exempt from Oregon state tax.
Duties
Plan distribution of work and methods for accomplishment.
Inspect the work of employees under his/her direction for compliance with craft, code, and workmanship standards.
Provide oral or written reports to supervisor that describe status of work assignments, causes of delay, and technical or personnel problems encountered while executing work assignments.
Perform all duties assigned to journey level maintenance mechanic.
Train workers under his/her direction, including hydroelectric power plant trainees, to perform craft work in accordance with established standards.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A pre-employment physical is required.
- Valid State Drivers License.
- Heavy Lifting - up to 45 lbs

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) POWER PLANT MECHANIC WORKER IN CHARGE without more than normal supervision. Lead a mechanical crew by planning, scheduling and/or coordinating work of others and have experience as a journeyman maintenance mechanic in an industrial setting to include working around cranes with pick capabilities in excess of 100 tons. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: The incumbent must have physical endurance to work for prolonged periods in cramped, poorly accessible sites when repairing or servicing installed equipment. Physical effort requires prolonged standing, walking, climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, twisting, and lifting and carrying objects frequently weighing up to, and occasionally over, 45 pounds. Machinist work requires acute dexterity.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in the machine shop, in the powerhouse and other project structures and outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, heights, oils, greases, confined areas, dust, dirt, water, heat or cold. Also may be exposed to odors, fumes and moving and/or energized equipment. Must wear all safety equipment and appropriate clothing, and successfully complete and maintain all occupational health requirements.
