About the Position: This position is located at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Duties

Provide strategic consultation and strategic education planning to the Commandant and Deputy Commandant. Provide inherent government functions as a liaison with external agencies, organizations, and educational institutions in alignment with the White House credential initiative. Develops strategic organizational concepts, and plans. Interpret programmatic and institutional accreditation requirements and criteria for medical education programs. Send accreditation documentation, curriculum, programmatic accreditation information, medical education best practices, and consultation to external educational partners. Broker and/or consult on organizational articulation agreements.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Education Program Specialist: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours in a field related to the work of the position, such as Allied Health Science or Health Administration, of which at least 9 semester hours must have been in education courses. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: At least 24 semester hours in a field related to the work of the position, such as Allied Health Science or Health Administration, of which at least 9 semester hours must have been in education courses, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience must reflect the level and kind described in C below. OR C. Experience: Four years of experience that demonstrated a thorough understanding of the principles and practices underlying the work of this position. This experience must have been of such character and diversity to demonstrate that the applicant possesses an understanding of the field comparable to that normally acquired through successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university. OR D. Teaching Experience: At least 1 full academic year of professional teaching experience. This experience is defined as full and primary responsibility, under general supervision, for instruction of assigned students in an accredited school or institution. This includes responsibility for preparing and presenting lessons and for evaluating students' progress, including a determination of the students' success or failure according to established criteria. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in the development of strategic education plans; reviewing Key Performance Indicators (KPI); aiding in the management of health education tasks; and utilizing data/program management software. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
