The Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Equipment Mechanic completes necessary repairs and preventative maintenance on all HVAC and refrigeration equipment within the Medical Center including 12 offsite locations.
Duties
The major duties of this position include but are not limited to:
The Incumbent performs all necessary repairs and preventative maintenance on all HVAC and refrigeration equipment within the Medical Center, 12 offsite locations, and other duties as assigned.
Installs equipment; recognizes the cause of faulty equipment; and repairs, modifies, and relocates equipment on various special-purpose air conditioning units and systems that are frequently modified to provide specific and critical climatic conditions.
The incumbent modifies and balances various elements of systems that are designed to meet a wide variety of extreme and critical conditions.
Plans and lays out construction, repair and overhaul work on equipment systems in order to meet a variety of critical requirements.
The incumbent plans and conducts specialized and precise tests of motors or engines in a test chamber during experiments under unique conditions that require the mechanic to satisfy specific test specifications by determining the size, shape and location of close fitting ducts and installing or planning their installation in a manner that directs heat and exhaust outside the test chamber without affecting the critical conditions; and by satisfying similar test requirements.
The incumbent determines the size, shape, and location of icing spray frames and installs or plans their installation to meet the conditions of external icing experiments or tests that require the direction of moisture on critical parts of equipment that are being tested.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7 am - 3:30 pm

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Strenuous physical effort is required while dismantling and reassembling equipment. The incumbent frequently carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. The incumbent must work from ladders, scaffolding, etc., where parts of systems worked on are frequently in hard-to-reach places. Stooping, stretching, bending, and kneeling are commonly encountered for long periods. Hand
dexterity is a critical requirement in completing most tasks.
Education
Must be CFC certified (Universal) by the EPA as per the Clean Air Act of 1990. Incumbent must have Journeyman or higher-level skillset in the HVAC trade. You must upload this certificate to be found eligible for referral to the hiring manager.
