The Military Sexual Trauma (MST) Coordinator provides education, training, and outreach within the Chalmers P. Wylie VA Ambulatory Care Center (VA ACC)(including CBOCS) as well as in the community to promote MST screenings, referrals, and treatment for Veterans impacted by MST. The MST Coordinator will provide clinical services to Veterans and their families impacted by MST. Experience with evidenced based treatments is expected.

The incumbent directly provides or establishes and monitors mechanisms to ensure that staff at the facility and associated CBOCs receive legally mandated education and training related to MST. Monitors and helps to ensure that national and VISN-level policies about informational outreach related to MST are implemented at the facility and associated CBOCs. The incumbent directly engages in and establishes and monitors mechanisms to provide informational outreach to Veterans and potentially eligible individuals and facilitates their engagement in care. The incumbent ensures that Veterans and potentially eligible individuals are aware of the MST Coordinator role and contact information; and are familiar with local services available. Serves as a point of contact, source of information, and problem solver for MST related issues at the facility and associated CBOCs. Establishes formal mechanisms for communication and problem solving related to MST issues at the facility and associated CBOCs, with a particular emphasis on establishing relationships with the facility Business Office (or other offices dealing with enrollment, eligibility, and billing issues); Information Resource Management Service; Women Veterans Health Program Manager; clinical directors in Mental Health, Primary Care, and other relevant clinical areas; and facility leadership among others. Serves as POC for Veterans and other individuals with questions about MST-related services at the facility and associated CBOCs. Accordingly, the incumbent ensures that staff at various points of entry into the system (e.g., telephone operators, information desk staff, Mental Health clerks, Business Office staff) know the MST Coordinator's role and contact information. Addresses systems issues that may create barriers to Veterans and eligible individuals entering care and act as an advocate for Veterans and eligible individuals in their interactions with relevant VHA clinics and offices. Assists in ensuring systems are in place to prevent Veterans and eligible individuals from encountering difficulties in obtaining reimbursement, filling prescribed medications, or receiving appropriate care. Communicates with national, VISN, facility-level leadership, and other stakeholders regarding MST and services for those who have experienced MST. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: Citizenship. Be a citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g this part). English Language Proficiency. Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f). Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: Social Worker (Program Coordinator), GS-12 Experience and Education. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring. Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program. Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program. Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s). Ability to provide training, orientation, and guidance within clinical practice. Preferred Experience: EBP for trauma and experience working with sexual trauma. References: Meets the qualification standard for the GS 12 as defined in VA Handbook 5005, Part II, App G39, Social Worker Qualification Standard GS-185 Veterans Health Administration. The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-12. Physical Requirements: The position is primarily sedentary, with some bending, walking, and stooping required. This position requires the ability to read printed material and distinguish colors, such as reading computer screens and the ability to accurately perceive depth so as to move around workspace safely and to appropriately make contact with patients and staff.
