About the Position: This is an Administrative Support Assistant, GS-0303-05 position with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Northwestern Division (NWD), Omaha District, Construction Division.
Duties
Receive visitors and telephone calls add refers them to the proper person or office.
Record messages in the absence of the appropriate person or personally supplies requested information from knowledge of area/resident office activities or known sources.
Maintain office files for both military and civil contracts according to established functional file system involving the classification of material into a large number of subject headings and subheadings.
Edit, type, and proof all correspondence of the area/resident office and other general correspondence associated with the office for conformance with correspondence policies.
Receive, review, process, and distribute all incoming mail to the appropriate authority/organization within the area/resident office.
Compile statistical data and facts for reports, data calls, charts, or records, extracting data from documents.
Maintain office library of professional/engineering/construction codes, standards, regulations, and bulletins.
Provide timekeeping and labor distribution duties.
Perform travel-related duties on an alternate basis.
Input time and attendance, travel orders, and travel vouchers using CEFMS and project information using the Resident Management System (RMS)
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- Incumbent must be proficient in typing. Position requires incumbent to be able to type at least 40 words per minute (WPM) with 3 or fewer errors.
Qualifications
Position may be filled as a term appointment NTE 5 years, may be extended up to the maximum of 8 years. If a permanent federal employee applies and is selected, the employee will forfeit their permanent status and becomes subject to the provisions of the term appointment. Permanent Army employees who accept a time limited appointment will not have placement rights to the previously held permanent position at the end of the time limited appointment.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Utilizing automated office software to prepare documents, correspondence or spreadsheets; OR 2) Performing administrative support duties for an office such as timekeeping and travel arrangements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
