This Science Delivery Specialist serves the USDA Forest Service Southern Research Station working to synthesize science findings, develop tools for managers and stakeholders, and provide usable research results to natural resource managers.

Duties
Duties listed are at the full performance level.
Ensures timely creation and dissemination of a regular suite of science delivery products.
Explores and identifies new science delivery and/or integrative products based upon recognized stakeholder needs.
Works with scientists to develop content for website, including descriptions of projects, products, and tools.
Develops and facilitates the evolution a strategic vision for online science communication and delivery. This includes, but is not limited to, identifying improvements in workflow and internal processes.
Advances processes that support cultural/organizational development aimed at improving internal stakeholders’ timely and recurring use of the web as a platform for communication and science exchange.
Provides coordination for partnerships with a wide range of natural resources interest groups and constituencies.
Identifies and develops new partnerships with natural resources interest groups and/or constituencies.
Participates and contributes to the coordination of workshops, seminars, and virtual events that help explain policy, objectives, plans and programs as they pertain to the natural resources management program, and to the group's objectives.
Manages a portfolio of projects aimed at improving communication and knowledge exchange between the scientific and natural resources management community.
Requirements

Qualifications

Basic Requirement for Biological Scientist (0401):
Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
--OR--
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major field of study that included 24 semester hours in course work in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. Related course work generally refers to courses that may be accepted as part of the program major.
--OR--
Combination of education and experience that included 24 semester hours in course work in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, AND experience sufficient to demonstrate that I possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation that is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field needed to perform the work of the occupation.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience and/or directly related education in the amounts listed below.
For the GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level; Specialized Experience is defined as all of the following:
Synthesized science findings for managers and stakeholders and provided usable research results to natural resource managers.
Developed science communication and delivery products such as on-line resources, publications, guides, and webinars targeted to land managers and forest landowners.
Worked with scientists to develop content for websites, including plain language descriptions of projects, products, and tools.
Facilitated or engaged in forums for information exchange that include personnel from USDA Forest Service and other federal, state, local, and tribal agencies, and universities.
--OR--
Applicants must have 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree (coursework directly related to position being filled) Coursework must be in a field such as biological sciences, forestry, natural resources management, and environmental science;
--OR--
An appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate level education (beyond what is required for a master's degree, i.e., more than 36 semester hours leading to a Ph.D.). Coursework must be in a field such as biological sciences, forestry, natural resources management, and environmental science.
For the GS-12 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level. Specialized Experience is defined as all of the following:
Led the development of science delivery products that translated scientific findings into actionable information targeted to land managers and forest landowners.
Identified and created products or information with application for land management and conservation, through co-development of knowledge with managers and planners.
Facilitated or led the development of new partnerships with a wide range of natural resource interest groups and constituencies.
Facilitated or led forums for information exchange that include personnel from USDA Forest Service and other federal, state, local, and tribal agencies, and universities resulting in new approaches and improved land management.
Graduate level education alone is not qualifying at the GS-12 grade level.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
