Duties
Duties described are at the minimum target grade for this announcement, GS-05:
Provides technical support to the heritage resources staff.
Conducts inventories of Forest cultural resources in areas of proposed Forest Service projects.
Performs on-the-ground area surveys for surface and subsurface evidence of historic and prehistoric archeological remains.
Performs a variety of computations and assessments of standard archeological data, such as entering archeological artifact and projects data in appropriate forms and databases.
Transfers GPS data to a GIS Arc View program loaded in a computer to create a map.
Ensures that archeology work assignments are carried out in safe, timely manner according to established standards and procedures.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of a 2-year probationary period is required.
- Per Public Law 104-134 all Federal employees are required to have federal payments made by direct deposit to their financial institution.

- Must be at least 18 years of age.

You must meet the ANILCA eligibility requirements to be referred for this position.
Eligibility Requirements: You must have lived and or worked in or near the geographic boundaries of the Chugach National Forest or Tongass National Forest and have special knowledge or expertise concerning the natural and cultural resources in Southcentral or Southeast Alaska area to participate in natural resources activities.
