About the Position: Fabricates, repairs, and modifies a variety or scale, or full-sized models and training aids. This is a PERMANENT Exhibits Maker position with the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobility and Security located at Fort Jackson, SC.
Duties
Fabricates, repairs, and modifies a variety or scale, or full-sized models and training aids.
Uses electric-heloarc or oxyacetylene welder.
Operate and perform maintenance on hand and CNC machinery.
Uses carpentry skills to construct, alter and repair less complex training aids such as PT stands, map board frames, and bulletin boards.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of up to 5% of the time.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
- Heavy lifting up to 50 lbs.
- This position requires the incumbent to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Exhibits Maker without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common Exhibits Maker duties such as assemble parts into complete models; operate and perform maintenance on wood and metal work machinery such as lathe, planer, bench saw, table saw to construct scale and full-sized models; compute dimensions, make templates and patterns and select appropriate tools and techniques; apply knowledge of 3D software and operate computer numerical controlled and computer aided manufacturing machinery. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Efforts: Frequently stand, stoops, bends, kneels, and work in tiring positions. Frequently lifts and carries materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: Normally works inside, in a well-ventilated building. There is a danger to skin and eyes from-flying metal chips and wooden particles. There is danger of cuts to the fingers, hands and other parts of the body while operating machinery. Is exposed to eye, skin, nose, and lung irritations from glue, bonding chemicals, vapors and sawdust and is exposed to flying sparks,the glare of torches and electrical shock. Wears protective clothing such as aprons, gloves, safety glasses and respirator, welding hood, and uses fans to protect against dust, vapors and fumes. These devices may be uncomfortable if worn for long periods of time. Work involves exposure to noise levels exceeding 85 db, requiring use of hearing protective equipment. These considerations have been considered in the evaluation of the job.
