Job opening: Boiler Plant Operator Supervisor

This position is located within the Boston, MA VA Medical Center; the individual selected for this position may be required to work at any of the Boston VA medical campuses and supports the 24-hour, 7-day a week operation of a high-pressure Boiler Plant consisting of three 740-horsepower boilers. Jamaica Plain, MA is the location for this position.
Duties
Some of the duties and responsibilities of this position include (but are not limited to):
Operation of the Heat Extractor system
Monitor/respond to alarms generated by the Energy Management Computer System
Oversee the operation of the Base-Loop Fire Alarm System
Supervision of lower-graded Boiler Plant Operators
Plan, schedule, and change work assignments for subordinates as necessary
Determine material, equipment, and maintenance needs of the plant
Draft position descriptions, performance standards, and routine memoranda
Schedule and approve leave requests
Perform other related duties as assigned
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday - 6:00AM - 2:00PM

Qualifications
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: The incumbent is subject to frequent standing, walking, kneeling, crawling, and climbing of ladders and scaffolds for inspections. The incumbent works in constant high temperatures from the boilers. He/she is exposed to the danger of steam leaks, oil fumes and flue gases. Cuts, bruises, burns and broken bones may result from accidents while working on equipment.
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1). The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements.
