About the Position: This position is located within the Martin Army Community Hospital, Fort Moore Georgia. The incumbent will serve as a Mechanical Engineer assisting in evaluating HVAC, fire protection, controls, electrical, architectural, and plumbing within a Medical Treatment Facility. Hours of duty are Monday-Friday 0800-1700.
Duties
Oversee technicians who prepare designs and specifications for mechanical utilities systems and other utilities systems comprised of mechanical components.
Review designs, including plans, specifications, and design analyses prepared by architect-engineers for technical adequacy.
Provide facility system preventive maintenance and repairs supporting a large Medical Treatment Facility (MTF).
Assist in operational troubleshooting to trades personnel in areas of HVAC equipment, systems, and controls, interior and exterior plumbing systems, steam generating plants and distribution systems.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has been designated “Mission Essential”. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations. the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
- Incumbent is required to be TDY less than 5% of the time.
- Incumbent is required to submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, (5CFRPart 2634, Subpart I Confidential Financial Disclosure Reports) upon entering the position and annually, in accordance with DoD Directive 5500-7-R.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes evaluating; renovating; and installing mechanical systems for a medical treatment facility; assisting with designing mechanical systems for an organization; reviewing design and operational mechanical systems for performance improvement; troubleshooting or compliance with standards; preparing specifications, project work descriptions, and/or cost estimates for projects, new installations, or alterations within an organization. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Engineering technology,
Physics, or Computer Science. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
