Duties
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The NGA Research Spectral Science pod focuses on enriching GEOINT by developing and transitioning capabilities for the extraction of intelligence content from spectral and temporal imagery sources. The pod leverages non-literal techniques, automation, and community collaboration to harness the expanding range of electro-optical collection for maximum analytical value. This position will be responsible for conducting scientific research into novel capabilities, and the programmatic management of significant R&D programs.The selected applicant will conduct novel scientific research to advance GEOINT for use in critical aerospace, missile, and space applications. The duties include supporting and overseeing research programs, validating research results, collaborative research with other agencies, and transitioning relevant technologies. This position includes detailed data analysis, collection planning, evaluation of contractor performance, working with sensor/system operators, transitioning capabilities, and presenting results. Skills required are algorithm development (Python, Java, Matlab, etc.), detailed data analysis with OPIR raw data, astrodynamics modeling, collection planning, and coordination with the larger R&D, DoD and Intelligence Community (IC).Additional Application Requirement: You may be asked to complete one or more assessments in addition to the application you submit on this website as part of your application to NGA. Qualifications
MANDATORY QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: For this particular job, applicants must meet all competencies reflected under the Mandatory Qualification Criteria to include education (if required). Online resumes must demonstrate qualification by providing specific examples and associated results, in response to the announcement's mandatory criteria specified in this vacancy announcement: 1. Detailed knowledge of OPIR sensors and processing.2. Experience with Algorithm Development (such as Matlab or Python) and scientific analysis using raw IR data.3. Demonstrated ability to coordinate and maintain working relationships across multiple stakeholders such as program offices, systems engineers, subject matter experts, researchers, technical experts, and acquisitions personnel.4. Demonstrated experience designing, developing, evaluating, and transitioning technical solutions for an organization/agency.EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: A. Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Mathematics, Physical Science, Computer Science, or a related discipline that includes 24 semester (36 quarter) hours in Mathematics, Science and/or a related Engineering Science such as Dynamics, Electronics, Mechanics, and Properties of Materials. Such coursework includes, but is not limited to, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Programming, Data Mining, Cybersecurity, Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing, or Statistics. Although not mandatory, coursework in differential and integral calculus is preferred. -OR- B. Combination of Education and Experience: A minimum of 24 semester (36 quarter) hours of coursework as listed in option A, plus experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties associated with this work. As a rule, every 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of coursework is equivalent to one year of experience. Candidates should show that their combination of education and experience totals to 4 years.DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: In addition to the mandatory qualifications, experience in the following is desired: 1. Collection Request and Coordination experience.2. Significant knowledge of Astrodynamics Modeling.3. Intelligence Community experience.
