About the Position: Serve as a Security Guard assigned under the authority of the Senior Commander at IMCOM supported installations. This is a PERMANENT Security Guard position with the Directorate of Emergency Services, Security located at Fort Huachuca, AZ.
Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment.
Duties
Validate entry requests through the use of ePACS and grants access to persons and vehicles with appropriate authorizations.
Serve as the initial point of contact for the installation’s visitors which may include foreign nationals, government agents, elective officials, media and Very Important Persons (VIP).
Provide answers to questions, determines whether appropriate need for access exists, and provides assistance as required.
Responsible for performing and resolving a full range of both standard procedural and non-recurring/unusual visitor access assignments.
Regulate pedestrian and vehicular traffic to prevent accidents and to ease congestion and parking problems.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance for the duration of employment.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
- Physical evaluation upon appointment and an annual re-evaluation to include tuberculosis testing required.
- Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
- Incumbent must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
- Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
- Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid state issued Driver's License.
- Incumbent must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
- Incumbent must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
- Incumbent must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
- Incumbent must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT).
- Temporary Duty travel (TDY) may be required up to 25%.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes work dealing with federal, state, municipal, or private protective organizations performing installation access control, using physical access control equipment, safeguarding personnel, information and critical assets, recording visitor information, and determining whether appropriate authorization for access exists. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
All applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade and specialized experience requirements within thirty (30) days after the closing date of the announcements.
Current employees applying under VEOA are subject to time-in-grade restrictions like any other GS employee.
