Works under the general supervision of the Supervisory Pharmacist/nurse supervisor and, as necessary, the direction of a Pharmacist/nurse supervisor. Receives assignments through oral instructions from the supervisor, pharmacy schedule, and doctors' prescriptions. Works independently, carrying out tasks according to established procedures..
Duties
As a Pharmacy Technician, you will:
Receive individual prescriptions; read and determine kind, strength, and dosage to be dispensed.
Apply a broad knowledge of pharmaceuticals and pharmacy practices in bulk compounding, packaging and labeling.
Note atypical occurrences when compounding, e.g., change in color, odor or consistency, and report problems to the Pharmacist.
Maintain inventories and associated records for controlled drugs and for drug formulary.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician
AND
Specialized experience for the GS-06 is defined as one year of experience at the GS-05 level, or equivalent that is directly related to the position and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Qualifying specialized experience may have been gained in hospital pharmacies, retail pharmacies, or in pharmaceutical firms or laboratories. Experience must have provided a basic knowledge of pharmaceutical nomenclature; characteristics, strengths, and dosage forms of pharmaceuticals; pharmaceutical systems of weights and measures; and the variety of procedures and techniques involved in the care, storage, repackaging, bulk compounding, and distribution of pharmaceuticals.
- Filling prescriptions in accordance with orders received; AND
- Maintaining a clean and orderly work and storage area; AND
- Processing incoming pharmacy supplies and placing them in the appropriate place.
OR
You may substitute education for general or specialized experience as follows: Successful completion of one full year of graduate level education in a field related to pharmacy.
OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.

The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If you are qualifying based on foreign education, you must submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency. Refer to the
