The Jonathan M. Wainwright Memorial VA Hospital is looking to fill a Lead Medical Support Assistant position in the Office of Community Care.

Duties
*THIS POSITION IS TELEWORK ELIGIBLE, NOT REMOTE*
The Lead MSA is responsible for the coordination of MSA assignments and workflow, especially in an interdisciplinary unit. The Lead MSA is responsible for daily workload assessments, assigning work, and assuring proper staffing coverage; evaluating training records; and determining training needs of MSAs to provide support across interdisciplinary settings.
The duties of this position include but are not limited to the following:
Serve as frontline representative and or liaison to assist Veterans and staff; process various requests for information, which will include but are not limited to: In-person assistance, telephone calls, emails, faxes, mail, electronic notifications through VHA systems, following all VHA directives.
Ensures assigned staff respond timely to HealtheVet secure messaging, along with other forms of communication, following department/service protocols and/or procedures.
Communicate changes in work policy and/or procedures timely and accurately to subordinate members of assigned group.
Communicate to assigned group quality review findings and subsequent follow up training goals.
Alerts appropriate clinical providers of availability of non-VA documentation of care to ensure appropriate hand offs occur between VA and non-VA providers relative to each episode of non-VA care.
Demonstrates expert knowledge in numerous advanced patient systems in support of care coordination and scheduling of Non-VA care (for example: Electronic Health Records Management (EHRM) systems, Provider Profile Management System (PPMS), Microsoft Suite, Health Share Referral Manager and other software as the Community Care Network applications become available).
Independently identifies areas where process improvement is needed and initiates programmatic improvements.
Demonstrates the ability to plan and organize workload for MSA's with minimal supervision and occasional assistance.
Participates in team huddles and team meetings to manage, plan, problem solve patient care by sharing information and collaborating with the team.
Assist and train other Medical Support Assistants as needed.
Work Schedule: Typical tour of duty is Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm, *Available shifts will be discussed during the interview process.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
English Language Proficiency. MSAs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j.
Specialized Experience must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level (1) collaborating with medical clinicians across multiple disciplines, scheduling interdisciplinary appointments, and possessing an advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in the community.
NOTE: **Resume must include hours per week for work experience credit. **
Candidates must also demonstrate all the KSAs below:
1. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology and a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or community resources.
2. Ability to utilize numerous advanced patient care systems in support of multiple clinics in an interdisciplinary setting.
3. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and delegate tasks/responsibilities to meet deadlines.
4. Skill in communicating with individuals to obtain the desires effect and coordinating with a variety of interdisciplinary care team staff.
5. Ability to provide staff development and training.
6. Ability to manage staffing requirements, manage workflow priorities, and adjust the flow of work to meet team and patient needs. This includes the ability to follow-up on pending issues and demonstrate an understanding of the impact if incomplete work across multiple clinics.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-7.
Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary but may require periods of standing or walking however, there are no physical requirements for the 0679 Medical support Assistant occupation.

IMPORTANT: Education is not used for substitution of experience at the GS 7 level.
