The primary purpose of this position is to To fabricate specialized shipping and storage containers per engineering specifications. To perform metal welding work involved in the manufacture, repair, modification, and assembly of various types of metal and alloy parts, equipment, systems, and structures. Additionally, CNC machining work and sheet metal work.
Duties
1. Planning and laying out the fabrication, modification or repair work of prototype models from a variety of sources and materials.
2. Uses a variety of welding processes such as oxyacetylene, electrode arc, submerged arc, shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, metal spray arc, and spot and stud welding to join all types of common metals and alloys, but typically aluminum.
3. Sets up and operates a variety of conventional and computer numerical control (CNC) machines
4. Develops patterns, cuts, forms, joins, assembles, and installs items and systems which have combined straight and curved edges or irregular curves, angles, and planes.
5. Uses a variety of precision instruments and equipment, operates and maintains complex hand tools, power tools, and equipment.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4700 General Maintenance And Operations Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The ideal candidate has a wide range of skills in the area of metal fabrication while possessing an excellent work ethic and the motivation to continuously improve and/or add to their skill base.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Performs machining, welding, and sheet metal operations, working with a wide range of materials (most commonly aluminum).
Plans, lays out, and selects machining and welding processes to fabricate/assemble prototypes form blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, work orders, and engineering requests
Sets up and operates a variety of conventional, computer numerical control (CNC) mills, lathes, press brakes, and welding machines (tungsten inert gas (TIG) and metal inert gas (MIG)).
Develops patterns, fixtures, and work holding devices to assist with fabrication processes.
Operates a variety of power tools, hand tools, and equipment. Uses precision measuring instruments to perform quality checks and inspections.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).
