You will be serving as a Carpenter in the Facilities Management Service Line at the VA Puget Sound Healthcare System, Seattle, Washington.

Duties

Performs tasks such as but not limited to laying out and installing suspended (acoustical) ceilings; prepares floors and installs Vinyl Composition Tile, carpet, and ceramic floor tiles, and builds concrete forms for flatwork and foundations. Submit completed as-built drawings for all installations and modifications to new or existing construction. Construct dust containment compartments and know the proper use of negative air machines and HEPA filters. Conforms to all VA directives, policies and OSHA rules and regulations related to safety, life safety, health and hazardous materials. Assembles a list of materials and supplies and obtains formal quotes from vendors needed to complete work assignments. Repairs and installs the following types of roofing: torch down, metal and composition materials. Forms, places and finishes concrete sidewalks, curbs, approaches and ramps. Installs and repairs floors such as but not limited to vinyl composition tile (VCT), carpet squares, rubber floor material, linoleum and ceramic tile. Constructs and repairs and installs casework, plastic laminate counter tops, shelving, and other work surfaces. Constructs, installs, and repairs window frames, shelving. Installs and finishes and repairs drywall. Builds load bearing & non-load bearing walls using wood & metal studs. Interprets drawings, blueprints, and specifications to independently layout and work sequences and types of lumber or special related materials. Performs work assigned by oral and written instructions and through building plans and engineering drawings. Read sand interprets blueprints, furniture floor plans, shop drawings, and "as built" blueprints. Maintains tools in safe and working order. Uses tools and materials of the trade including but not limited to stationary woodworking equipment and leveling instruments. Demonstrates proficiency in how to don proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when a task requires it. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Carpenter/PD40881A Physical Requirements: Incumbent is required to stand/or walk for long periods of time and must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. or more. Work is often performed in awkward and cramped positions and on ladders, scaffolds and scissors lifts. This requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions for long periods of time. The incumbent must be able to wear a respiration device.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
