This position is located at the Crownpoint Service Unit, Business Office Branch, Division of Administrative Services, Crownpoint, NM. The primary purpose of this position is to perform a major segment of the accounts receivable support function through the follow-up process of all outstanding patient accounts within the Business Office. The incumbent reports to the Supervisory Health System Specialist.

Duties

Review patient accounts to determine the status of the account, making standard adjustments Performs work consisting of examination for accuracy, adequacy of documentation or citation, compliance with regulations, and justification of claims and other requests for payments Review delinquent patient accounts records, following up with responsible parties via telephone and correspondence according to organization policy and procedures Maintains files system of patient accounts or follow-up with responsible parties on outstanding balances Examine accounts to resolve difficult reconciliations requiring an analysis of adjustments and corrective entries in the patient account system Review and examines various bill types, of patient care of third party payers and performs third party collection process on all unpaid and partial payments outstanding Maintains documents of all activity related/performed on patient accounts in patient financial folder Responsible for identifying patient accounts deemed non-collectable Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports utilizing the Accounts Receivable program Responsible for self-education by reading third party newletters, periodicals and updates circulated by management.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. For positions requiring positive education requirements, or if you are using education to meet all or part of the qualification requirements, you MUST submit a copy of your transcripts or an itemized list of college courses which includes equivalent information from the transcript (course title, semester/quarter hours, and grade/degree earned) in your resume. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: GS-05 Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Applicants who meet at least one of the following requirements may qualify for positions at the GS-05 - One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 level obtained in either the public or private sector. Such experience would include most if not all: processing third party health plan transactions, compiling reports, coordinating collection for third party reimbursement, maintaining automated accounts receivable ledger, posting claim payments, monitoring claim payment rollover to secondary and tertiary billing, generate Aging summary reports, reviewing patients accounts. A four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. A combination of education and specialized experience listed above. One year of education is equivalent to 30 semester hours - transcripts are required. GS-06 Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Applicants who meet at least one of the following requirements may qualify for positions at the GS-05 - One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level obtained in either the public or private sector. Such experience would include most if not all: coordinating collection for third party reimbursement, maintaining automated accounts receivable ledger, posting claim payments, monitoring claim payment rollover to secondary and tertiary billing, generate Aging summary reports, reviewing patient accounts, resolving difficult reconciliations. Specialized Experience: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Applying specific rules, regulations or procedures to perform a full range of related accounting and technical tasks that are identified in Business Office third party collection process. Completes transactions by reviewing documents for missing information, searching records, and files; verifying and maintaining records of transactions; and answering routine procedural questions. Substitution of Education for Experience: GS-05: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-05 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. Transcripts must be provided if substituting education for experience and/or if education is required. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable but official transcripts will be required before entrance on duty. Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
