The incumbent of this position is an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic in the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Unit, Engineering Service. This position is established to perform work in the maintenance, repair of air conditioning, ventilation and refrigeration equipment located at this Medical Center. These systems are vital in the treatment, comfort and safety of the patients and staff of this VA Medical Center.

Duties

Duties include but are not limited to: Installs, maintains, repairs, programs and operates various air conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation systems and components. Drives and maintains the assigned shop vehicle Operates computers in order to monitor the various buildings' HVAC control systems. Works on air handlers, chillers (scroll and reciprocating), return and exhaust fans, pumps, refrigerators, freezers, ice machines, humidifiers, transformers and various electrical components associated with HVAC equipment. Monitors and adjusts systems to ensure compliance with all ASHRAE and Joint Commission standards. Universally certified by an approved refrigerant transition and recover program. Work Schedule: Full-Time Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic/PD120780 Physical Requirements: Incumbent typically works with easily reached equipment. The incumbent must be able to stand for long periods of time, utilize ladders and sometimes scaffolding or platforms, work in confined or awkward / cramped spaces, able to adapt to heat, cold and dampness. Employee must be able to lift minimum of fifty pounds. Duties actively involve climbing, pulling, kneeling, bending and walking for prolonged periods. Employee typically works inside but sometimes outside and is exposed to possible cuts, bruises, and burns.
