The incumbent functions within the philosophy, goals, and objectives of Nursing Service as well as Voluntary Services and strives to maintain quality throughout the continuum of care. The primary responsibility of the incumbent is the safe and timely transport of patients in wheelchairs, on a stretcher or ambulatory and items supporting patient care to and from various locations with the Medical Center.
Duties
Major duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following duties:
Operate trams to transport guests and staff members from remote parking sites.
Assist guests with wheelchairs or strollers on/off tram.
Provides safe and efficient transportation patients for various locations in the facility.
Escorts patients to appointments and other locations within the facility.
Communicates with all staff, co-workers, and families and must utilize good interpersonal skills.
Support customer service standards, promote a positive image of the hospital, and be sensitive and guarded with confidential information.
Trained to identify readily apparent hazardous conditions which might impact patient transport and in various processes required to address and resolve identified conditions.
The ability to apply basic infection control/safety management policy and procedure.
Knowledge and skill sufficient to observe/report and document the patient's physical and emotional reaction to treatment/transport.
Assists in transportation with final salutes.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, Part Time 1:00pm to 5:00pm (20hrs per week)

Physical Requirements: This work is physically demanding, requiring periods of walking, sitting, and regular bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, pushing, pulling, reaching, carrying supplies, and similar activities. The use of mechanical lifts when necessary and good body mechanics is expected. Work is strenuous at 1/3 of the time. Incumbent will be caring for patients who may be uncooperative and combative due to physical or emotional illness. Incumbent must have the ability to function under pressure/stress typically associated with daily duties. Incumbent may be required to work, holidays, weekends, or rotating tours intermittently.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
GS-04 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-03 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR): Applicants must meet the below IOR to be further considered.
Specialized Experience, positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.

For GS-4: Successful completion of 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours in subjects related to the position.(TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)

General experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Experience assisting and transferring patients in wheelchairs, stretcher, or medical beds.
Coordinating patient transportation.
Cleaning, storing, of disposing of Reusable Medical Equipment (RME).
Conducting inventories of transport equipment.
Collecting patient information, orients patients to the hospital.

Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have two years above high school. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)

Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at grades GS-4
