About the Position: Serves as Museum Specialist (History) for the Center of Military History. Performs a full range of duties to related to the management of the U.S. Army's historical collection to include inventory of the U.S. Army's historical collection, including artifacts, artwork and archival materials.

Duties

Serves as a Museum Specialist working for the Museum Director assisting in registration and physical maintenance of historical artifacts in museum collections. Prepares historical artifacts for storage, ensuring their proper handling and care. Performs research and reference work to identify artifacts, archival material and art. Stores objects, artwork and archival materials in accordance with proper conservation procedures. Assists with the museum registration and cataloging of artifacts, artwork, and archival materials held by the U.S. Army.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent to operate/drive a forklift.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Government Vehicle Operators license.
  • This position requires the wear and use of prescribed personnel protective equipment.
  • This position requires a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles or incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
  • This position requires a local background investigation.
  • Position is subject to Lautenberg/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • This position requires lifting of at least 30 lbs overhead.

Specialized Experience GS-09: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting research on the collection to identify artifacts, artwork and archival material; providing complex information on historical artifacts, archival materials, and artwork; maintaining data records on historical artifacts, artwork and archival material; ensuring proper handling and care of all materiel; and utilizing an automated database such as Army Museum Information System (AMIS). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as Museum Study. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: History and ArchaeologyOral CommunicationTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
