THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a POLICE OFFICER (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D2156000 and is part of the IL 126, National Guard.

Duties

As a POLICE OFFICER (TITLE 32), GS-0083-8, you will conduct formal combat arms training and maintenance activities for the Security Forces Squadron and tenant personnel. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Manage and oversee the installation ground weapons training and maintenance program; serve as an instructor and inspect ground weapons. Make minor repairs on small arms, using tools, gauges, and equipment. Provide sub-depot level maintenance on ground weapons, assembling and disassembling all small arms utilized in security forces inventory. Oversee the work activities of subordinates and Traditional Guardsmen. Train employees in assigned duties and responsibilities. Assign work, establish priorities, and ensure technical quality of work products. Plan, organize, and direct the activities of the installation's ground weapons training and maintenance program, incorporating safety requirements, and maintains adherence to safety regulations. Monitor explosive safety and munitions movement's safety procedures. Perform and enforce the full range of security forces duties within the military installation. Present repetitive courses or designated blocks of longer courses and present training material and instruction covering proper use of handguns, rifles, machine guns and other base defense/ground combat skills equipment, in accordance with approved lesson plans and course control documents. Make adjustments in presentation or other instructional methods to resolve common classroom problems, to include those of student motivation and communication, as well as, last minute agenda schedule or student changes, student problems, equipment malfunctions, or lack of supplies. Use training aids and devices in addition to those listed in the POI in a manner that enhances training outcome.

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of considerations for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence, The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG. The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees. The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible. The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership. The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens. Military Grades: Enlisted Only - Minimum Rank SrA - Maximum Rank TSgt. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess at least six months of working experiences and the successful completion of the Air Force Technical Training AFSC/Security Forces School. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-08 Level - MUST possess specialized experience which includes performing practical security force activities in direct support of the military weapon systems and physical security, law and order, and area security operations; work experiences in law enforcement, maintaining law and order, preserving the peace, and protecting life and civil rights within the jurisdiction of military installations; protecting federal property from hazards such as sabotage, espionage, trespass, theft, fire, and accident or willful damage and destruction; securing crime and incident scenes; apprehending and detaining suspects; searching persons and property; collect, seize, and preserve evidence; conduct interviews of witnesses and suspects and obtain statements and testify in official judicial proceedings; responding to disaster and relief operations and participate in contingencies; developing plans, policies, procedures, and detailed instructions to implement security force programs; maintaining accountability and ensuring security for weapons, ammunition, and explosives utilized in the course of instruction in accordance with applicable Air Force Instructions; implementing ground weapons training programs; control and safeguarding of arms, ammunition, and equipment; and, instructing ground weapons qualification training; managing weapon placement to security forces and ground defense force commanders; inspecting ground weapons, replacing unserviceable parts, and analyzing malfunctions by inspections and serviceability testing; firing weapons for accuracy and serviceability; control and operate firing ranges and associated facilities to include supervising construction and rehabilitation; instruction on the proper use of handguns, rifles, machine guns and other base defense/ground combat skills equipment, in accordance with approved lesson plans and course control documents; weaponry, laws, directives, programs, policies, and procedures governing Security Forces activities; installation security; weapon system and resource security; anti-terrorism; law enforcement and investigations; military working dogs; air base defense; training; pass and registration; civilian work force; and combat arms. In order to be considered qualified, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in Federal service. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
