The primary purpose of this position is to supervise and coordinate the team that ensures the safe movement, storage, and installation of all works of art under the jurisdiction of the National Gallery.

Qualifications
Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards Handbook requirements for the GS-1016-13. A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the GS-12 level in the Federal service, planning and coordinating projects of art movement and installation.

1. Mastery knowledge of established art handling, installation, and movement techniques to assure safety, and the ability to determine best method to be used for handling any medium of art as established by National Gallery guidelines and new conservation techniques both onsite and off the premises.
2. Demonstrated ability to plan for, organize, and bring to completion independent projects that may include shipment of large exhibitions from the collection and deal with specialized packing problems that may require complex solutions; work well and often closely with other members of the National Gallery’s staff, including conservators, curators, photo services, design, and installation, as well as a broad range of museum professionals from outside the museum to ensure successful completion of such exhibitions.
3. Mastery knowledge of policies and procedures sufficient to ensure the safety of the National Gallery’s works of art and the ability to develop and implement policies and procedures to improve those policies and procedures as necessary.
4. Demonstrated ability to supervise a large staff, manage long-range projects, and supervise a variety of activities concurrently and assess conditions and circumstances and make recommendations that have a direct and positive effect on the safety, care, and preservation of the National Gallery’s collections and works of art under the museum’s responsibility.
