This position is located at a Central Texas Veterans Health Care System facility in Temple, TX. This position performs the duties of a Laborer requiring prior experience or training and a degree of manual skill.

Duties

Major Duties include, but not limited to: Break up pavement using jackhammers and clear sidewalks using large, industrial-type, powered snow blowers Performs ground maintenance on grades or slopes; digs ditches and trenches with picks and shovels where dirt is hard and compact Operate large, industrial walking-type mowers and simple riding-type mowers with limited adjustments Manually adjusts blades for cutting height, prepares gasoline/oil mixtures for powered equipment, and cleans and lubricates mowers Cut trees using axes or chain saws Wash buildings using a high-pressure sprayer Separate, stack, carry and load/unload materials, supplies, and packages Move very heavy furniture, equipment, supplies, etc., through confined spaces Stripe parking lots, utilizing gasoline-powered striping machine Helps the laundry truck driver in loading and unloading heavy hand trucks of linen for transportation to and from the laundry Loads bags of dirty laundry into hand trucks for transportation to a motor truck equipped with hydraulic tail lift Assist driver in positioning the truck by standing on ground and directing the driver to back-up and make turns Performs other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm Position Description Title/PD#: Laborer/PD01358A Physical Requirements: Considerable physical effort is required, heavy lifting, 45 pounds and over, heavy carrying, 45 pounds and over, straight pulling (3 hours), pulling hand over hand (2 hours), pushing, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking (7 hours), standing (7 hours), crawling, kneeling, repeated bending (3 hours), climbing, legs only (4 hours), climbing, use of legs and arms, both legs required, operation of crane, truck, tractor, or motor vehicle, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other, both eyes required, depth perception, ability to distinguish shades of colors and hearing (aid permitted). Environmental Factors: Work is performed outside and inside, excessive heat, excessive cold, excessive humidity, excessive dampness or chilling, dry atmospheric conditions, excessive noise, intermittent, constant noise, dust, silica, asbestos, etc., fumes, smoke, or gases, solvents (degreasing agents), grease and oils, radiant energy, electrical energy, slippery or uneven walking surfaces, working around machinery with moving parts, working around moving objects or vehicles, working on ladders or scaffolding, working below ground, unusual fatigue factors, working with hands in water, explosives, vibration, working closely with others, working alone and protracted or irregular hours of work

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
