About the Position: The Prevention Coordinator develops and administers an installation-wide ASAP prevention and education program to include goals, objectives and milestones for military and civilian employees, their family members, military and civilian retirees, and personnel of other tenant or support elements of the installation.
Duties
Serves as advisor to unit commanders on matters pertaining to substance abuse prevention/education and conducts leadership training programs in substance abuse for troop commanders, platoon leaders, and senior NCOs.
Develops an installation-wide Army Substance Abuse Program Prevention Education Plan of Instruction to include developing lesson plans for all training conducted for the ASAP training program, training aids, etc., for each target group identified.
Develops and coordinate a continuing training program for unit prevention leader (UPL) course and provide on-going technical guidance on Army Substance Abuse Program (ASAP) areas of instruction.
Develops and administers an installation-wide ASAP prevention and education program to include goals, objectives and milestones for military and civilian employees, and personnel of other tenant or support elements of the installation.
Assists in the development of local on-going substance abuse prevention programs involving youth, parents, and other concerned adults from the surrounding civilian communities.
Maintains liaison with civilian and military law enforcement agencies, magistrate courts, and other courts to provide classes for DWI/DUI offenders.

Basic Requirement:
Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as Criminal Justice, Psychology, Social Work, or Sociology.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
OR
Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) developing Substance Abuse Program prevention plan and education program for military or civilian employees; and 2) managing a substance abuse training program to ensure that prevention activities are carried out in accordance with applicable guidance; and 3) facilitating substance abuse education and awareness training that addresses issues such as addiction, life styles leading to chemical dependency, interventions or resources including treatment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Criminal Justice, Psychology, Social Work or Sociology.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
