Duties

This position serves as a Supervisory Legal Administrative Specialist responsible for providing management and administrative work to the Support staff in the Criminal Division of the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Alabama. Typical work assignments include: Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets goals and priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work. Assigns work to subordinates based on difficulty of assignments and staff capabilities. Evaluates work performance of subordinates. Provides technical advice and assistance to resolve problems referred by staff. Participates in the selection of new employees to be under his/her supervision. Hears and resolves complaints and grievances from employees, referring to the supervisor only those of a district-wide or precedent setting nature. Effects minor disciplinary measures as required. Identifies development and training needs of staff. Identifies ways to improve production and increase the quality of the work of the unit and implements same. Ensures that assigned staff follow governing administrative policies and procedures, laws, rules, and regulations. Performs a variety of litigation support tasks necessary to process complex and/or voluminous electronically stored information. Provides advice, customer support services, and project management services in connection with electronic discovery and evidence, litigation support projects, and litigation technology software applications. Evaluates current office systems on the legal support side of the office and proposes new or alternative procedures to improve the effectiveness of work methods. Performs a variety of administrative work to meet the operational needs of the assigned areas. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
  • If selected, you will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a one-year supervisory or managerial probationary period unless this requirement has been met previously.

Qualifications

GS-12: To be eligible at the GS-12 level, you must meet at least one year of full-time specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience organizing and directing the activities of legal support staff; providing legal, technical, and clerical support to attorneys; providing technical advice to legal support staff; assisting attorneys and managing legal support staff in organizing voluminous case information; performing a variety of complex administration support relating to the management and administrative support of the division. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
