The Supply Technician serves under the Department of Prosthetics located at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago providing enhanced procurement support for medical supplies purchased throughout the facility.

Duties

Duties include but are not limited to: Verifies that adequate supplies of Prosthetic and Orthotic items are on hand to provide for patient services Recommends stock levels, maintain stock issues and accountability for appliances. Receives all incoming stock to PSAS, processes receiving documents for all items received. Manages the receipt, distribution, and stock maintenance of items received from the warehouse and from outside vendors. Investigates and reconciles routine and recurring discrepancies relating to actions such as receipt control, stock control, reorder points and inventory adjustments. Assembles some of the durable medical equipment such as walkers. Maximizes storage space available, and ensures that all work areas are clear of debris for easy flow of stock. Maintains all inventory barcode label levels in order to maintain consistent label to stock ratio. Work Schedule: Mon - Fri 7:30am-4:00pm Compressed/Flexible: Available Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/08/2023. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: working with supply procedures; inventory management/maintenance of records and receipts; purchasing supplies; coordinating logistical support; operation of various computer software and equipment. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed of 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-05 level. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-05. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hours of graduate level education (i.e. 50% of graduate education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Work requires walking, lifting, standing, stooping and bending. Frequently lifts objects that may weigh up to 50 lbs. from warehouse stock and/or cart to shelves.
