The work includes installing, modifying, maintaining, and repairing a variety of high-pressure piping systems, such as steam distribution and heating systems, oil, medical gases, vacuum, and potable water, throughout a large, high-rise complex facility

Duties

The position serves within the Maintenance and Operations (M&O) section of Engineering Service at the Joseph Maxwell Cleland Atlanta VA Medical Center, performing a variety of tasks related to plumbing and piping systems in support of the mission and goals of the Medical Center. Your duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Installing, modifying, maintaining, and repairing a variety of high-pressure piping systems, such as steam distribution and heating systems, oil, medical gases, vacuum, and potable water, throughout a large, high-rise complex facility Installing insulation, condensate collection tanks and pumps, hot water heating devices, circulating pumps, radiators, and other heating devices Planning and laying out piping system routing, equipment placement, and elevation (when applicable) Making pressure and operating tests on new or replacement systems or equipment and ensuring proper circulation, flows, pressures, leak-free installations, and trouble-free operation Installing pipe covering insulation on completed repairs, modifications, or installations prior to finalizing the work orders Work Schedule: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. , Monday through Friday. Position Description Title/PD#: Pipefitter/PD50272A Physical Requirements: Position will frequently work from ladders, scaffolds, or elevator platforms, and in hard-to-reach, cramped, and confined work areas such as under or behind tanks or equipment, ditches, crawl spaces, and manholes. The work involves considerable walking, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The position is required to lift, carry, set up parts, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift items over 50 pounds. The position must work both inside and outside. Outside work is occasionally required during extremely bad weather. Repairs are frequently in areas that are wet, dirty, greasy, extremely hot, or foul-smelling. Occasionally, the incumbent will be required to work in the vicinity of asbestos-containing materials. The incumbent will be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary to accomplish the assigned task in a safe manner. Driver's License: A current, valid state-issued Driver's License is preferred for this position. NOTE: We cannot accept photographs, therefore; please do not submit a copy of your license with your application package. Wearing a face mask is required when an exemption to the influenza vaccination has been granted. HCP in violation of this directive may face disciplinary action up to and including removal from federal service. HCP are individuals who, during the influenza season, work in VHA locations or who come into contact with VA patients or other HCP as part of their duties. VHA locations include, but are not limited to, VA hospitals and associated clinics, community living centers(CLCs), community-based outpatient clinics(CBOCs), domiciliary units, Vet centers and VA-leased medical facilities. HCP include all VA licensed and unlicensed, clinical and administrative, remote and onsite, paid and without compensation, full- and part-time employees, intermittent employees, fee basis employees, VA contractors, researchers, volunteers and health professions trainees(HPTs) who are expected to perform any or all of their work at these facilities. HPTs may be paid or unpaid and include residents, interns, fellows and students. HCP also includes VHA personnel providing home-based care to Veterans and drivers and other personnel whose duties put them in contact with patients outside VA medical facilities.
