The primary purpose of this position is to provide professional clinical social work services in support of mental health programs for the installation's Mental Health Flight and Military Treatment Facility (MTF). Designs, develops, maintains, implements, and evaluates clinical social work service programs for the Mental Health Flight.

Duties

Designs, develops, maintains, implements, and evaluates clinical social work service programs for the installation Mental Health Flight and Military Treatment Facility (MTF). Conducts intake evaluations and psycho-diagnostic assessments. Provides evidence-based psychotherapy. Provides psychological consultation, education, and training to other mental health professionals, medicalbstaff, military commanders/senior leaders, and other DoD and civilian providers. Responsible for case management activities occurring from initial referral and counseling, through caseclosure, or transfer.

  • At a minimum, qualification requirements stipulated by the US Office of Personnel Management (OPM) for the 0185 occupational series must be met
  • Selective Placement Factors: Must have the following minimum qualifications IAW DOD directive:
  • (a) Possess a current, unrestricted license to practice clinical social work independently in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or the U.S Virgin Islands
  • (b) Practice will require clinical privileges at the host MTF. MUST maintain active clinical privileges for the duration of employment. Must sustain current competency to practice at the independent level
  • (c) Must have practiced as an independent licensed clinical social worker within past two years
  • (d) As a condition of employment, government civilian providers must meet all applicable credentialing requirements IAW local military treatment facility guidelines and be fully qualified to perform within the scope of their practice
  • (e) Must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Work may occasionally required travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft
  • Incumbent may share on-call duty during weeknights and/or weekends on a rotational basis as required consistent with other mental health professionals performing like duties

  • Completion of appropriate clinical and administrative duties may involve “after hours” care or work in addition to regular clinic hours
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions, +IOR 0185 series. BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: DEGREE: Social Work. Must fulfill all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: AApplicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience include: Knowledge of professional social work practices, principles, theories, and administrative requirements to be able to apply them in clinical and operational unit settings; Knowledge of professional evidence-based treatments for a full range of psychiatric disorders to plan and provide treatment to patients; Knowledge of administration, scoring, and interpretation of select psychological and psycho-social measures to properly assess patient's and family's needs. Sophisticated understanding of behavioral risk management and ability to engage appropriate protections as needed when risk of harm to the patient or others is present; Knowledge of the Diagnostic and Statistic Manual of Mental Disorders to evaluate psychiatric disorders and apply professional diagnostic skills; Ability to provide guidance and consultation services to medical professionals and military leaders, work well with others in a team approach, and facilitate referrals to community or state-based human service agencies as needed, e.g., to Protective Services or financial aid organizations. NOTE: Your resume must support this response. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of professional social work practices, principles, theories, and administrative requirements to be able to apply them in clinical and operational unit settings. 2. Knowledge of professional evidence-based treatments for a full range of psychiatric disorders to plan and provide treatment to patients. 3. Skill in oral and written communication to include maintaining proper documentation of patient treatment and follow up. 6. Ability to provide guidance and consultation services to medical professionals and military leaders, work well with others in a team approach, and facilitate referrals to community or state-based human service agencies as needed, e.g., to Protective Services or financial aid organizations. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
