The Middle District of Alabama consists of 23 counties in central and southeastern Alabama. The United States Attorney's office employs approximately 58 individuals, including 25 Assistant United States Attorney's (AUSA). The Acting United States Attorney Jonathan S. Ross is currently seeking to hire an outstanding candidate for an AUSA position in the Criminal Division. The U.S. Attorney's Office is currently accepting applications for the position of Assistant United States Attorney in the Criminal Division. Employment at the U. S. Attorney's Office offers a unique and challenging experience for the highly motivated attorney; an opportunity to work on some of the most significant, complex and visible cases being litigated today. The office is seeking applications from experienced litigators who have a strong Federal or State litigation background and trial experience particularly in criminal prosecutions. Responsibilities will include the prosecution of a variety of crimes under federal law including organized crime and drug enforcement, cybercrime, child exploitation, terrorism, violent crime, and other cases. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Security Requirements: Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation. Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district-specific information. Selective Service: If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, you must certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System, or are exempt from having to do so under the Selective Service Law. Requirements

  • You must be a United States Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • J.D. degree and active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) required.
  • Must reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district specific information.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1* year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. United States citizenship is required. Preferred Qualifications: Applicants should demonstrate quick analytical ability and be able to articulate the critical issues accurately and precisely in a case. Applicants should possess excellent commmunication skills, strong advocacy skills, courtroom skills and presence, and exhibit the ability to work in a supportive and professional manner with other attorneys, support staff, and client agencies. Applicants should have excellent judgment and the ability to handle highly charged issues. Applicants should possess excellent computer skills. Applicant will be expected to do the majority of his/her own legal research and writing and should be substantially self-sufficient in preparing day-today correspondence and pleadings. You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
